VirianDiscipline:ReconciliationCommittee
A Reconciliation committee is appointed by the Virian Council or "PrimeVector" (tbd), who shall appoint from the VirianVectors" two members, at least one of whom is to be neutral or favorably disposed towards the party for whom the Reconciliation committee is appointed, if such a member can be found.
Any person approached to join a Reconciliation committee is entitled to be recused in the event of a conflict of interest, but is not obliged to do so if no other appropriate members are available to replace them.
Should no appropriate members be available after applying the above selection rules, any members of the Virian Congregation" may be appointed in their stead at the absolute discretion of the PrimeVector and the selection shall be made first in the interest of the community as a whole and secondly in the interest of any members wronged and thirdly in the interest of the allegedly erring member.
A Reconciliation committee works in private. Their communications will be available only to the Virian Council and subsequent Reconciliation committees. Each member of the Reconciliation committee undertakes (on behalf of themselves and their significant others) never to reveal their discussions or deliberations. If a member of a Reconciliation committee cannot make the undertaking on behalf of a significant other, then they may not discuss the matter with their significant other. Any breach of this rule shall be resolved by means of a Disciplinary Action.
The Reconciliation committee has the task of investigating accusations that a member has offended against the community or another member.
Should the Reconciliation committee determine that an offense has in fact been committed, they shall attempt to bring the event to an amicable closure for the good of the community and those involved.
Closure shall always include a written acknowledgement on the part of those the Reconciliation committee finds guilty of offending the community, and must contain an undertaking not to repeat disorderly conduct subject to Disciplinary Action.
Should the Reconciliation committee fail to achieve closure, they may either make a recommendation for a Disciplinary Action to attempt to bring the erring member to reconciliation, or, in the case of repeated infractions and refusal to offer repentance, a movement for Disownment.
Where the Reconciliation committee deems that some Disciplinary Action or other action is required, including actions to amend the rules, for the good of the community, those offended or the offender, the committee will make this recommendation in a public report and the administrators shall implement their recommendations.
This process shall be continued until an acknowledgement is received (which terminates the mandate of the Reconciliation committee), or the process of Disownment is implemented.
