[Blunderov] We got some good press on Bruce Eisner's Vision Thing. Nice
site. Nice man.

Creating a Sensible Culture"

Overview
Virus is a collection of mutually-supporting ideas (a meme-complex)
encompassing philosophy, science, technology, politics, and religion. The
core ideas are based on evolution and memetics because one of the primary
design goals was survivability through adaptation (religions die, not
because they grow old, but because they become obsolete). If a new religion
is designed around the premise of continuously integrating better (more
accurate, more useful) concepts while ensuring the survival of its
believers, it could conceivably achieve true immortality

I'm not sure that "Almost makes me want to pray." (which is all that Bruce Eisner said about us - as he noted, the rest is from our "About" the COV page, "Want to turn memes into a religion? The Church of Virus has taken the first steps. Here is an excerpt from their about page") is particularly good press. Speaking for myself, if I said something like that, I'd almost certainly intend it sarcastically. That and the heading, "Church of Virus Turns Memetics Into Religion" (which might also be meant sarcastically), leaves me very unsure where he stands on us, or if he has any position at all.

Not that it matters particularly, especially as some of the company on his links are much better avoided. However, I did find a gem which probably applies here more than many places on the net, under the topic, "Wired News: on Web 2.0 "When you invite the whole world to your party, inevitably someone pees in the beer." and he comments, "Human are such a varied lot of creature. The best of us is hardly better than an extremely smart monkey The worst of us pee in the beer."

Are we really attempting to turn "memes into religion." I'd suggest not. There is a FAQ, "FAQ: Is the Church of Virus a Religion" (which I've now copied back from the pit) which might be helpful in communicating our position.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. - Steven Weinberg, 1999
