Thanks for clearing this up. Someone at Kuro5hin posted this and claimed credit for it, but I'm pretty sure they aren't your guy.
So now I know that, contrary to the K5 dude's claims, the images had to be stretched, scaled, sheared, and rotated to create the perfect alignment. Meanwhile the baseline misregistrations which are characteristic of typewriters and which cannot be introduced from a word processor at all are still there in the original. Of course when you start with two machines using the exact same font and use the same standard margins (on the typewriter a bell would tell you to go to the next line, while Word does it for you) you'd expect the results to be pretty close. But not perfect like this, unless of course the 'puter fudged it a bit for you.
