There was a cool article in SCIAM called “the end of addiction” about a compound derived from ibogaine that could be used to chemically cure addiction in rats by restoring dopamine sensitivity.

Can't seem to find it anymore.

Interesting that the US has banned research on it.  Perhaps the “drug war” is more important to US policy makers than the “drug cure”
