What the world thinks of God is on TV tonight in the UK at 9 PM GMT, BBC 2.

But the new episode of 24 will be on as well, at the same time on Rupert Murdock's Sky one (well, he owns quite a bit of it... but not as much as he wants, so I think he's launching a British version of Fox here soon, its still going to be with American shows etc... like Sky one mostly is… ) Sorry BBC... I will have to record you for after

 | | I found it amusing that the percentage of Americans apparently willing to die for their god is exactly the same as the number of Lebanonese willing to do the same...

I found it amusing that I live in the worlds most atheistic country.

 | | What if you are willing to die for your country...and you are a “free-thinking” individual?

Is there any criteria whereby one could determine who is and who is not free thinking among the “I would die for my country” set of people?

Is it anything like the Voight-Kampff Test?

No more so than willingness to die for any other equally
stupid cause or reason, from an individual's point of view.

Someone once asked Bertrand Russell whether he would ever be prepared to
die for a cause. He replied "Of course not - I might be wrong!"

 | | ...dying for a country assumes that the country is the living epitome of an
idea or set of values or purpose.  a country is NOT any of these things.  a
country involves many individuals...many of whom are at odds with each other
to their very foundations.  nothing is wrong with dying for a country, just
as nothing is wrong with dying for scrambled eggs in the morning...it's just
 a foolish act.
