I'm loving it because I've got my shit together this year! Although I have spent too much money.
At one of my band's Christmas shows, Santa (we had a naughty piratical Santa all season) did a rap that, in short, said "fuck the baby Jesus, Santa's the reason for the season". That was a great moment. I agree, cuz for me it's about the joy of giving. I meditate on deeper spiritual things every day and don't need an institution to remind me to do so.
Now here's the best part, I got presents from the Fossil Cartel for a couple of friends and got a couple of things for me from my Xmas gift money (mom & grandma) - I got a TRILOBYTE fossil bracelet and a METEORITE necklace! I'm so psyched, I can reach to my neck and touch something that CAME FROM OUTER SPACE. And then reach down to my wrist and look at practically the beginning of life. Trilobytes were the first creatures to evolve vision. That just blows me away.
I got my nasa geek friend a matching meteorite necklace and my shark-fixated friend a fossilized megalodon tooth necklace. I rule.
Well, I also rule cuz all my boyfriends presents were from a sex shop. Did any of y'all know that there is such a thing as a vibrating camera dildo probe? It's totally bizarre but so bizarre I couldn't NOT buy it. It attaches to your camcorder. Holy crap.

Unwritten Christmas rules:
The amount of money you spend on people at Xmas is proportional to how much love you are declaring for them.
Generally speaking, the amount is intended to be proportional to your income and amounts should not be compared to others who are wealthier. Making this kind of comparison is considered crude, but it is often done anyway.
It's important, when observing this ritual, to realize that by spending more on some people, rather than others, you are quantifying your love and affinity.
Don't be surprised when one person exclaims, "you must love X more than me!", after they've compared the relative market value of your gifts.
To avoid this sort of comparison, it is customary to remove tags or labels that indicate how much was spent. This, however, is only a mild deterrant.
When it comes down to it, Christmas is about cash, and if you spend more on your secretary than your wife... you're going to catch hell...

haha! nice...very nice...
on a related note, i take the most joy in this "holiday season" just observing all the inadvertant blasphemy that local christians are making. the fact that they are completely oblivious that such things as christmas trees, lights, onaments and the exchanging of gifts are pagan idols and customs (jeramiah 10:2- makes it all the more fun for me.
and it also means that i finally found a use for the bible that i was given for easter (another pagan-in-origin holiday, usurped by the christians...) i'll find myself with free time on my hands and go place to place where people are enjoysing the "holiday season" and make sure that they know of their inconsistancies...
does that make me a bastard? raining on someone's proverbial parade? maybe so, but it's fun!
warmest regards on this yule cycle, athenonrex [wish i had a vibrating dildo with a camera scope on it]

Actually I had quite the entertainment on christmas day. I usually stick to the acceptable social conversations. Amazingly however I happen upon an individual who has diverged from the norm in his beliefs.
This person starts ranting about chaos, disruption and proclaiming himself a discordian. He also says he's a minister in the church of the subgenius. He makes quite an amazement speech trying to recruit new members. I acted very interested especially in his technique for he has succeeded in converting a few followers. He also proclaims to be part of a disorganized organization operation mind fuck which started in the 60's. It was incredibly good show. I wish had made a video tape.
I couldn't help thinking though how much better a philosophy of life his beliefs were than christians. He had resolved many of the countradictions face by overwhelming majority of christians listening. I also wonder if the majority of society will ever transition through beliefs like these when they can no longer hold chrisitian beliefs. I also couldn't help thinking if there becomes a posthuman society what kind of beliefs will the humans have.
Anyway my conversations are quite redundant and most of the time extrememly tedious. This was a gift. A gem. I still start laughing when I think about it.

Hi, jubungalord! So where was this guy? What were you doing there?
Xmas (or more correctly, December's festival of Chocolate) has been really good this year. I got loads of Caffeine based products (which it good), a SATA card (faster than IDE) with a 120 GB HDD with 8 meg cache (works at lightning speed), some CD-RW disks, a fake arm with hand (for comedy situations like burying it in a public place for people to find...), some money, some super hyper mega vitamins, and Flaxseed oil (I'm vedgie - it contains some essential fatty acids like Cod Liver Oil does), a glass chess set and some really good books like:
The Philosophy Gym: 25 Short Adventures in Thinking by Stephen Law - http://tinyurl.com/2u5fc - Amazon
The BBC authorized Human Instinct book (http://tinyurl.com/yvnbu - Amazon) accompanying the BBC series by the Jewish Robert Winston (seems pretty good even though part 8's headed "Morality and Spirituality - Beyond Instinct" - he gets biased and looses it a bit, as he does on the TV series, but even that is interesting to observe, at least one of the reviewers on Amazon seems to agree too (http://tinyurl.com/yvnbu)
ONE HUNDRED WAYS - for a dog to train its human is a comical thing, my family has 2 dogs, 3 if you include my brothers Japanese girlfriends's tiny dog.
Last Xmas I was given the brilliant Darwin Awards book (http://www.darwinawards.com), a collaborative web produced book, its very funny and slightly informative.
Why has the name Santa, St. Nick, etc... changed so much? There has to be sites, books, or documentaries talking about this... I found a Xian site that rightly pointed out Santa/Satan was blasphemous to Christmas as a Xian tradition, it had an interesting story about the origins, and was heavily biased, I lost the link, sorry, but Google knows it somewhere!
Just randomly I was checking the spelling on Spirituality with Google - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Spirituality and found "The Kabbalah Centre" advert. http://www.kabbalah.com - this needs looking at...

I got drunk and went to midnight mass. We were going through the Psalms. Unfortunately it went psalm 1, psalm 2.....3.....4 It's lucky for the vicar i was innebriated, or I may have got violent, instead I just left, had pizza, and fell asleep in my clothes.
...And that was just Christmas Eve!
Oh boy, did I have fun ......not
I got a sleeping bag! woopee!
