This is a nice piece by Freeman Dyson from the "NY Review of Books". On the surface, the book under review is an attempt to explain Einstein's vs Poincaré's place in the hall of fame of history. But many interesting points are made in the process. Among them, Kuhn's view of science as motivated by the call of the times is contrasted to the author's (Galison's) view. You will also find stories of clocks, railroads, timezones, metric systems, and more.
