Virus Monthly?
« on: 2003-04-06 20:10:50 » |

I was sitting down watching 60 minutes today, and I was thinking about the CoV and all the diversity of the people here. I thought it might be interesting to put together a monthly page that has articles and opinions of various CoV members, as well as information that might be of interest to other virians. We could put all the information together in a PDF file and either have David host it on the server, or I could host it on mine. Any opinions? Support? Anyone interested?

[rhinoceros] It sounds interesting. Let's figure out what it means in practice. How would that be different from the BBS posts? One point is that the articles should be written by ourselves. What else? Balanced material and an integrated presentation style? Focus on the personal approaches or a kind of virian approval system?

[ElvenSage] I think the most important thing about it is, that it'll encourage virians to write their own opinions. Also it'll allow us to connect people around here that usually do not see each other within the forum or the chat channel. Every week or so I meet someone on IRC that "has been part of the CoV for a long time," and is, "always in the chat channel." T
he material will be balanced. I'm thinking about having a politics article, a tech article, a creativity column, and a personal column. The creativity column will feature a virians personal creative works, be it art/poetry, etc. On the personal column we can have a virian write a small article about themselves, their likes, that type of thing. (selection method will be figured out at a future date...)

I must say I like the idea for three reasons:
1. I thoroughly enjoy the works published on the list and BBS already 2. The CoV would make a superb critical environment for anyone (incl. myself) who might want to have our ideas tempered. 3. Nothing helps get things written like a deadline.

Hmmmm, so it seems that the idea has enough support to actually get something started. My computer is screwed up currently because of my gramps, but I'll have it running within the next couple of weeks. Then I'll get started on this project.

Alright, I am now ready to start accepting articles from CoV members. Please respond to me, if you are interested, and tell me which section you'd like to write for on the first issue. Here is what is available:
1 politics article 1 tech article 2 creative works 1-2 Misc. Articles.
The last thing I need, is a personal column. I think it would be fitting to have David Lucifer as the first one covered, if he is willing to accept.

Three "creative" items from Hermit en route to enjoy, stimulate, provoke, annoy or offend depending on the disposition of the reader. Thank-you for your (excellent) idea and your labor. It is not unappreciated.
Note to Elf: Please note that in all three titles, "plausable" is to be quoted. I think I omitted this in the second two items. Once you have done as you would with them, I would appreciate notification so that I can cross-post them to suitable threads on the BBS.
Kind Regards
Hermit

Thank you very much Hermit! For a moment there I was wondering if anyone was going to submit anything. Anyone want to step up and take on one of the other items? BTW, one of the misc. items I think I'm going to switch to a book/movie review.

Deadline is the 29th. That gives me a day to put it all together, and a day to get it out. Which should be more then enough.
Currently I have been submitted for 2-3 months worth of "creative" posts from various people. If Jonathan takes the review, then we still have the two major sections: politics, and technology.
