Hello everyone,

I just joined the forum here. This is an interesting place, quite unlike most of the boring and cliche forums I come across. I hope I can learn much about the CoV, and its members.

As for myself I just recently got back from another year down in Iraq, and I'm back home. I think I'm pretty satisfied after this tour, and I won't need to volunteer for yet another one... but I never know. Don't know how much I'll be posting, but I look forward to being able to, at the very least, browse around here a bit more.

Thankyou for your attention.

Be welcome.

What did you volunteer to do in Iraq? Do you feel you achieved it?

Welcome!

I tried to enlist in July. I blew the top off their apptitude test, but the Army wouldn't take me with asthma.
I'd be interested to hear about your experiences.

There really is no polite way to say this, so I think I'll let one of my favourite Americans say it for me: "Anyone dumb enough to want to be in the military should be allowed in." - Bill Hicks.

LoL! Dumb or crazy. Thanks for that letheomaniac. I can only say from my own perspective that the fact they would have paid off all of my student loans, and that the signing bonus has gotten big enough to retire my personal debt as well played some significant role in my consideration in joining. Furthermore my educational background ensured that I would have likely been an officer, and possibly a JAG rather than pfc. Beyond that I can only say that I have no pets, plants, children, wives, or other dependents and various aspects of my life had gotten unbearable in a bad rut sort of way that a big change seemed attractive . . . still might even. I certainly don't recommend it for anyone else. If the military is looking like a good option, you are living one screwed up life . . . to that I plead guilty . . . or you might be mentally warped in such a way you feel unnaturally suited to operating in and attracted to crisis situations . . . and to that I plead guilty too.  So perhaps what I'm saying is that I'm not really dumb so much as crazy. In otherwords it is one of those issues where one must disclaim to the audience, "don't try this at home."

No worries Mo
BTW if it's 'adventure, excitement and really wild things' that you crave you could always try the Klatchian, er, French Foreign Legion. I have a mate who is a tattoo artist and he used to spend 6 months of the year up in Djibouti tattooing the Legion. He reckons that they are, er, diverse and colourful, or put another way, fucking crazy. Sounds like fun.
