CoV Approved

Flux has proposed that we start a new project to recognize worthy web sites with a "CoV Approved" award: CoVApproved
Kharin suggested we start a discussion here on the BBS to debate which images to use for the purpose, etc.

Hi, yes, I would like to start by saying I agree with the comments on http://virus.lucifer.com/wiki/CoVApproved as of 07/02/2003 1:00 AM GMT
I do think this image (which I started off from) is too plain, I think as JakeSapiens suggested, [that it is] "a good idea to have several different graphic and theme selections so that people receiving the honors of CoV approval can choose those versions which best fit into the theme of their own site"
I also had begun a simple Flash animation: http://tinyurl.com/5gvo , I intend to make the morphing look cellular when ‘complete’, it is definitely a work in progress.
Different color schemes and styles would be appropriate, since we are based around evolution, Darwin, the genome, the big bang theory, the singularity, viruses, cells, [particularly sex cells, and cell division], the Virtues and Sins are good ideas, to be developed on, go ahead, make some images, animations or whatever you feel, we will feel is appropriate – and I await for our artistic responses.

One idea Bolverker mentioned was to have the badge read 'Church of Virus Infected.'

Bolverker made the infected suggestion, so he should be credited accordingly, I did the artwork.

Some thoughts on the "CoV Infected" graphic as a seal of approval. Did I understand correctly that it is to be used by other sites?
While most of us understand "infection" as a strong way to express how memes take hold, people always talk about avoiding infections and memetic immunization. If the logo is not to be used only in CoV, someone would have to be committed to this idea before using it in another site.
Second, "CoV infected" implies an active role of CoV in developing the ideas contained in something sealed by this logo. I am not sure how that would be accepted by someone in another site.
Except if we are only talking about virians' sites...

Thank you Rhino, more variation is needed, I agree the term "infected" would be ok for Virian influenced sites, but the memes would have to be from the CoV, even though our memes are logically determinable. Another form, or as suggested previously (http://virus.lucifer.com/wiki/CoVApproved), a range of forms are also needed for other sites, specific tailoring to different purposes would be more effective.

In which case, the name 'church of virus' has exactly the same problems, no? Virus and infection are at least striking, and are therefore of considerable utility on the principle of notoriety being preferrable to obscurity. The rather opaque acronym 'cov' on the other hand means nothing whatsoever unless one already knows what it stands for. As such, I think it unlikely that the acronym would excite any great interest. In the event that it did, the 'soft-pedalling' would not be of any great consequence since terms like 'virus' in evidence throughout the site.
