[Hermit] This was the opening of the House Committee on UnAmerican Activities (HUAC). "Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Communist party?" Those who refused to answer were jailed, so violating the 14th and 5th constitutional amendment rights of their victims. Those who did answer were damned as communists and rejected by society.
[Hermit] Joe Dees campaign of painting anyone who opposes him as unAmerican, of asserting that they are members of "conspiracies" and continuously harassing people in the hope of obtaining a reply which seemingly has no purpose other than to establish an invalid bias against them, appears indistinguishable from those tactics used by Senator Joe McCarthy and his cronies.
