That was rather backhanded, but I expected nothing less - or more. In
fact, however, the procession of events is forcing Dubya, kicking and
screaming, to become a multilateralist to a much greater degree than
he had ever envisioned, and - horror of horrors! - a nation-builder. He
has been forced to adhere to the counsel of wiser and more
experienced people than himself. And the Dubya who committed the
verbal faux pas of mentioning a crusade (and he meant the word in the
generic and not the specific sense) and who at first misnamed the
operation in Afghanistan "Infinite Justice" (which offended Muslims, who
replied that only Allah could dispense infinite justice), apologized for
one mistake and corrected the other (cf. Enduring Freedom), and not
only repeatedly maintained that this was not a war against Islam, but
against evildoers who had 'hijacked' it, but did so surrounded by Muslim
clergy. But of course he is given no credit for same, only blame.
