In a word, "sitsfleisch". (A Chess expression)
(German 'buttocks, fig 'perseverance'),Undue procrastination or
extreme persistence during play. In the middle of the 19th century some
players became notorious for the slowness of their play, a situation
largely remedied by the introduction of the TIME LIMIT. In club matches
however, when unfinished matches are adjudicated, some players who have
enough time on their clocks sit out the game, hoping the adjudicator
will find resources that they themselves cannot find.

Saddam won't last forever. Out-sit the bastard. Set the stage for the
bastard-who-is-yet-to-come. Maybe at least he will be our
bastard this time. (This one used to be "Our Bastard in Bagdad" of
course and it was great while it lasted, but like an old love affair it
is now all ashes in the mouth.)
I realize that there are those who feel there is an imminent danger. I
am skeptical, as I have tried to make clear, that this danger, if any,
is so imminent that this crisis cannot be averted by the normal
diplomatic mechanisms and conventions. Diplomats are experts at
prevarication and obfuscation. The man with the scythe is also very
efficient at his work.
You were kind enough to ask me what my thoughts are. These are they.
Warm regards.
