If Saddam were amenable to reason, do you think he would be playing
brinkmanship games with UN mandated WMD inspectors? Do you
think he's be periodically orfdering shootdown attempts against the
coalition planes that prevent him from killing the Kurds and Shiites
within Iraq, even though all this has done is to cost the lives and
equpment of the shootdown sites and the soldiers who man them? I
think not. Even Kofi Annan despairs, and with good reason.
