...a good point to bring up. if i were to get in an accident while driving
drunk, it would be like any other accident i would get in that would be my
fault, basically a small fender bender...changing lanes into another
car(doubtful since i dont do it when drinking) or maybe hitting the car in
front of me or a parked car while going about 5mph. death usually results
from either a full speed head on or running a light/stop sign which i never
even come close to when drinking because im aware of the diminished focus so
i compensate. i've actually come quite close to running a few red lights
whilst sober due to distractions which i allow myself due to my "sober"
state. we as people love absolutes...it makes things so easy. but the fact
is people and alcohol involve an extremely wide array of options. to
pretend that it makes some condemnable potential murderer is really absurd.
those people are a specific type and they always have an incident within a
few years of driving. this is my most crucial point in this. and i tire of
restating it for everyone that keeps bulking "drunk drivers" as one,
regardless if it's an experienced drinker with a good reaction and 5 or 6
beers in him, or a clinical alcohol sociopath that has 2 shots and just
doesnt give a fuck and wont recall a thing the next morning and will proceed
drinking as long as there is alcohol around. it's like night and day.

Since one IS oneself, one should OWN oneself, and be allowed to
endanger oneself however one sees fit, with any drug one chooses to
imbibe, or in any other manner one decides to choose (up to and
including suicide - I am in favor of the death penalty for failed suicides
who still wish to die after a failed attempt ;~). However, we have left
psychology and entered sociology when we speak of driving drunk (or
however impaired) on a public road; in such cases, one does NOT own
another, so one does not have the right to endanger another, and when
one does so and is discovered, ethically, one should pay the social
price (this from a two-time - 18 1/2 years apart - DWI convictee). I now
drive sober and drink at home or where I have made designated driver
plans. I am overjoyed that I never had a DWI accident, for I would have
to live the rest of my life with the knowledge that I thoughtlessly and
cavalierly injured or killed an innocent other. Florida DWI laws are
rough, but not nearly as rough as living with that horror haunting you
until you die.
