The whole comment is pure BS. "Racial" tension, contrary to popular belief,
is not brought about because of the colour of the skin, but because of
differences in ideology. Miss (Mrs? Mr?) Swain basically said that
god-fearing people aren't racists. That is true, as long as the white
god-fearing person believes exactly the same things as the
black/hispanic/oriental god-fearing person.
Western religions tend to lead to a superiority complex which usually says
"anyone who disagrees with you is wrong, hellbound and not worthy of
existence". This is where racial tensions come from. In the past, non-Whites
didn't tend to subscribe to the popular beliefs of the time, so they were
persecuted.
Take the long-since exterminated Incan empite. They were no Christians, and
they were wiped out by Spanish Conquistadors because of this (that and their
large amount of gold). Take the death-camps in the second world war. People
who didn't subscribe to the "ruling parties" faith were deemed unworthy of
existence, and it just so happens that people considered the different ones
to be a different race.
I expect this comment by Swain would lead to even more racial tension,
considering it makes out that God-fearing people are "better" than non-God
fearing people.
Sorry if this seems a lil' disorganised, but I'm sleepy and the caffiene
hasn't kicked in yet....
