Possibly because some of those problems have been *caused* by American
foreign policy, economic bullying and profligacy with natural resources?
These problems are likely to get worse as Bush seems intent on destroying
every international treaty that he deems not to be in Americas narrow
short-term interests: e.g. the kyoto treaty and the chemical weapons treaty.

Ps/ I'm not knocking all Americans, only the arrogant, ignorant,
self-centred 'my country right or wrong' ones, of which Mr Bush seems to be
a particularly fine example.
