>Can 'intelligent' machines ever be spiritual beings? High-tech
prognosticator Ray Kurzweil thinks so

The problem I have with the direction he seems to be taking technology right
now is the speech interface.
Communicating to you now I am not using speech, I rarely use speech for
anything I do on the computer.
How long do you think it will be before thought is directly translated into
our machines? Then the only limiting factor to how fast we want something
done is how fast we can think it. Link this up to our subconscious mind in
the dream state and I bet some very interesting things will happen. Have
their been any studies to how fast our minds are functioning in the dream
state as compared to a conscious level - say visually. In some limited
experiments I have done personally, the time it takes me to visually recall
the dream consciously (when I can) is sometimes longer than it took to build
the visual memories in the subconscious state. At times just coming out of
REM sleep for a few seconds - imagery was flashing in my mind that would
take me minutes to replay - if we could harness that kind of brain power in
the conscious state, imagine the effective use of time we could have.
