As for the murder thing - Yes, I think it is contridictory - but God fearers tend to
differentiate between "murder of passion" and "murder for god" as two different things.
here is an example:
I work with an older Catholic (64 yrs old) named Dave. Dave is intelligent and
politically saavy and him and I often engage in lively conversation. When discussing
Slepian, Dave said
Dave: "Where did the killers ever get the idea that murder is alright?"
Me: "Because the Bible repeatedly tells them that it is"
Dave: Thats Bullshit, the Bible NEVER condons murder"
Of course the argument is over at this stage - To David - Divine murder is not murder,
and a murder in the name of God that he agrees with, is not really murder. Murder is when
someone kills someone you like, and executing is what happens to people you dont like.
Pretty obvious I suppose.
