The debate is interesting, in that IMHO, extrocranial memes are merely
maps of the territory, and M. Brodie (and cronies) prefer to use them in
carnival sideshows rather than take the time to show the marks the back
of the tent.... Then again, he's splitting the take, so he can't.

The main problem I have with artifacts being memes is that artifacts are
non-living things- what lives is the motion of mind that observes and
uses them- and there, IMHO, is where the meme plays.

Is a meme that process of mind that 'creates' things in the external
world? Yes, in a very real way.

There, my poetic definition. Too many unknowns to be scientific.
