This is a complete lie. I believe it's source is the "liberal" protestant
church's of our day -- who don't like the "hell fire and damnation" of the
southern baptists...
Once, about 6 months ago, I corrected this same mistake on Virus by citing
a dozen or so verses where Jesus gives the standard hell fire and damnation
speech. Am I going to bother this time?
Nah.
Just go read the gospels yourself.
Oh well, just one example: one of Jesus's favorite lines is "where there is
weeping and gnashing of teeth". It occurs so often, in fact, that Russell
comments:
"He goes on about the wailing and gnashing of teeth. It comes in one
verse after another, and it is quite manifest to the reader that there
is a certain pleasure in contemplating the wailing and gnashing of
teeth, or else it would not occur so often."
-- Bertrand Russell, _Why I Am Not a Christian_
(note that I use weeping, from the NIV, while Russell uses wailing, from
the KJV)
For best effect, go read The Parable of the Weeds, Matt 13:24-30, 13:36-43
