The pi question seems to me to illustrate this: Is
pi the symbolic or mathematic equations we attribute
to a circle, or is it the circle itself upon which
we build the subsequent symbolic understanding?
That is: How does the circle affect one's
understanding vs. how does the equation subsequently
improve upon this understanding? So that finally:
Does it matter that a circle is represented
symbolically as "pi" or does it matter that a person
understand the pure nature of a circular form?
