The Earth is an oblate spheroid, and the sun is merely one focus of each
planet's eliptical orbit before you account for the gravity of less massive
objects such as asteroids, moons and other planets, so both statements are
wrong. It often happens that most or all or the planets are on the same side
of the sun. I agree that the issue has been dealt with and they are different
people.
