I do not know of any studies that have tested this possibility.
Future research might also focus on the "grammar" of individual words...
assuming that the letter configuration might represent a string of
symbolic ideas arranged in such a way that the letters, as symbols, form
a coherent meaning (similar to the way that a string of words form a
sentence with a coherent meaning).
I have tested the hypothesis informally by looking for comanalities in
words with similar sounds and found that the meanings of similar
sounding words often seem to have enough similarities to confirm the
initial hypothesis.
