<< but the meme is still just an idle musing about
some possible parallel evolutionary mechanism of consciousness and
culture. It's attractive, but it ain't got a fact to stand on yet. It is
certainly not to be found by a process of renaming the parts of
established psychological, sociological, aesthetic, and political
disciplines. (Or even by renaming its own gestating parts, however
organic that feels to the glossolalists so prevalent here....) >>

maybe thats how memes should stay. i tend to disagree with you that memes are
a renaming parts of psychology and sociology. fashion is a meme-complex whose
effect is the way people dress, act, and talk. fashion can also be considered
a part of sociology. according to my lexicon a meme is an idea, a statement,
an action or a feeling which can be transmitted through words, actions, and
observations.
