I read about this in one of William Calvin's books. Some neurologist
determined experimentally that roughly 10% of our neurons are firing
at any given time. Then some idiot who has never heard of epilepsy
came across the research and thought, "wouldn't it be great if we
could use all our neurons all the time?!". Sadly, as is often the case,
the mistaken meme took on a life of its own[1]. Did you know the Inuits
have over 400 words for "snow"?
