Hey! This reminds me of one of my favorite quotations... "You can't get
there from here"... question: where did this quotation come from? I
want to read the book it came from originally... but I don't even know
who said it first!

It's an old New England saying. If you look at the topography
of New
England you will see that even today the mountains are many and the
roads are few.
What it meant was that there was no direct connection between
where you were and where you wanted to be. You had to go to some third
location
before you would find the proper road. That the saying is terse to the
point of being amusing is in keeping with the character of the natives,
who value both traits.
