I agree entirely. I wasn't trying to imply that there aren't any
self-serving (or society-serving) bishops etc. (we must also remember
that political power such as is weilded by high-ranking vatican
officials can be an end in itself) but recognising that
it needn't be true of all of them allows me to clear away some
discolouration from my view, facilitating a more reasoned outlook on
a subject which has personally affected me.
