Hi,

If a Crusading Christian orders non-combatants murdered and
disembowled in order to look for gems those people might have
swallowed, would you be more inclined to say that this is an act
motivated by religious faith, or would you be more inclined to see it
as an act motivated by greed, lust for power, and possibly bloodlust
and JUSTIFIED as an act of faith?

Sure, that's how I see it. However, if you *ask* them, I'm sure they would reply that their faith is the cause, the reason for the behaviour -- they are the soldiers of god. Onward Christian Soldiers! We must always remember, too, that faith in the literal sense of the bible IS the "evidence of things unseen", the justification of the apparently unjustified.
