[Blunderov] The claim that Luigi Cascioli is "the most courageous atheist of all times" is a little extravagant for my taste, but Italians are often reputed to be a very demonstrative people. There is no doubt that Luigi Cascioli is a strong atheist however, and I have nothing but admiration for his principled stand.
Best Regards.

"If atheists repudiate traditional faith it is not only because this faith is in contrast with the affirmations of believers themselves, with reason that denies the idea of God, but because they have understood that false dogmas go against true morality, against the social demands of the world we live in. The belief in God is not only a simple illusion, a purely theoretical error. It misrepresents the practical direction of life by orienting it in a chimerical direction. It goes against the social realty, against the essential needs of mankind which are the primary motor and the ultimate goal of every morality".

I think that he is may just be another single issue ultraist loon, except he happens to be on our side.
If it is the standing up for principles you admire, you ought really to admire the priest too.
Kind regards,
JD

[Blunderov] I do not admire avowing principles per se; it is perfectly possible to sincerely affirm despicable principles. The principle for which Cascioli stands is reason. The principle for which the priest stands is that of faith. The priest may be a perfectly admirable fellow in other respects but I do not admire, to put it mildly, the principle for which he stands.
I therefore do not admire the priest's stand, principled though I'm sure he feels it to be.
Best Regards.
