Why is it taboo to suggest there may be innate differences between human male minds and human female minds?

Quote: Facing mounting pressure on campus and in the national press, University President Lawrence H. Summers issued last night his most extensive apology since suggesting on Friday that “innate differences” between the sexes may account in part for the underrepresentation of women on elite science faculties.

Err - shouldn't that be "differently enabled" instead of "inately different"?

Very nice of you to add the CoV tag there Ophis
Speaking of the Blank Slate, the latest issue of Skeptic magazine has an interesting article in defence of human nature in which Pinker, The Blank Slate, and EP in general are criticized. I'm finding it quite compelling so far, but I'm also thinking that the author is setting up a straw man in EP. More when I finish.

Any findings of particular interest after reading that article? Is EP now discredited in your mind?
