Have you (Björn) left irrationality to embrace rationality due to the comfy
appeal of hard reason? I know that it did not happen that way for me. But I
am all for the CoV leveling the playing field with the established
religions. Just think of it, all of us chipping in our ten percent of our
earnings to construct a nice big new church building where we could all bask
in the warmth of the fellowship of the elite that we would know ourselves to
be. If we could pull that off I have no doubt that we could draw our share
of converts to the flock. But, though you can lead a man to knowledge, you
cannot make him think. I can not see how trading one's God for loads of hard
headwork and a meaningless void with the occasional bit of fuzzy matter
could ever be made to really look appealing. Well, I suppose the young at
heart could be tempted with guiltless sex, drugs, and rock and roll -- I
could volunteer to be in charge of arranging those :-)
And I nominate Björn to captain the selling of cryonics and faith in the
singularity to the old fogies.
While folk have God at the helm they are his royal children with grand
purpose and unbounded love. Without that God they are in great danger of
seeing the self as little more than a lonely pilot of a stinking alimentary
canal.
Selling rationality to the children of God ... I can't decide if it looks
more like a hard nut to crack, or a long row to hoe.
