One of the best movies I've seen this year.  It's a bio pic about Harvey Pekar; creator of American Splendor, (view the trailer:http://www.apple.com/trailers/newline/american_splendor/)an independent comic book.    It chronicles his life in Cleveland, OH.  He's a man who is stuck in a dead-end job as a file clerk in the local VA hospital.  His interests lie in music on vinyl and comic books.  One day, back in 1960's Cleveland, he happens to meet the legendary underground comic book illustrator R.Crumb at a local garage sale.  Crumb, still an unknown at the time, and Pekar develop a friendship that would ultimately see Crumb becoming a successful illustrator and Pekar creating his own comic book years after Crumb gained notierity and fame.    There's much to be said about this movie;  from it's use of the real people that this movie depicts, to the actors who portray these people, and how the entire film making process uses elements of the former, or the latter, or, in some cases, both of them at the same time.  It's a MUST see movie!

Additionally, "The New American Splendor Anthology" is an ideal look at Harvey Pekar's life in comic book form.  It show shows the gritty realistic side to life in a comic book.  Interesting, funny, sad, complex, and truthful best describe this anthology.  For a brief description of this graphic novel I suggest going to the following links:

Fond regards,
