Correlation does not imply causality, but correlation is all we can possibly
detect.
Given sufficiently corroborated correlation, we infer causality.
Likewise, coherence does not imply truth, but coherence is all we can possibly
detect.
Given sufficiently corroborated coherence, we infer truth.
Does that make sense? Has anyone seen this analogy before?

I could have got better alliteration but using correspondence instead of truth

You can show a degree of possible causation via an experiment with a control group. You can also detect causation by searching for an existing experiment and control group.
However, this always assumes that there is not some undetected correlated attribute that was the "real cause"
