In America a religion war is going on. Scientists hit hard back after Intelligent Design seemed to have won the first round. After the Cultural Wars now the Relgion Wars seem to be order of the day. Popular scientifc books about the danger of religion are high on the best- seller lists, under command of Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion.
The Oxford evolutionbiologist and author argues not alone against the existence of any God, but is sometimes less eloquent. So calls he the god of the Old Testament ' phychotic ' and the ' most unpleasant character of all fiction '. Also Letter to a Christian Nation of Stanford phylosepher Sam Harris and Daniel Dennets Breaking the Spell: Religion as a natural Phenomenon sell very well.
Since the call to teach Intelligent Design besides Darwins evolution- theory_ in 37 states the proposal awaites approval_ scientists were getting mangled in the public debate. President Bush overturned their demand for more research into the matter of cellbiology. To turn the tables upside down in their favour a special think- tank is set up, which needs to lobby more for an even more scientific policy. With a ' Declaration for Defending Science and Secularism ' 50 prominent scientists speak against the Middle Ages mindset which stipulates the public policy:- " we can 't exept from people in other countries to understand the dangers of religious funda- mentalism, if religious fundamantalists influence and backbone our very own policy.
