This morning I read the post from Walter. So I thought being pretty new
around here and becouse I did not join becouse of the political discusion I
could probabely try to start a new discusion. Well actualy it is not a new
discusion it's an old one but been brought up through the fact that some
dutch commedy star called Sylvia Millecam and a famous dutch "medium"(healer
trough divine powers)calling herselves Jomanda were involved. The story in
short is as follows.
In 2000 breastcancer was diagnosed in miss Millecam by a regular docter, the
cancar was in an easely to treat state so the docter wanted to start
treating her. She was of course devistated but did not realy belived it so
she went to a alternative docter with normal medical training and
alternative(homeopatic) training. Using the alternative methods only, this
"docter" concluded that it was no cancer but some bacterial infection. Then
miss millecam also whent to Jomanda the divine healer and to about 8 other
alternative healers. Most of them told her it was not cancer and treated her
for a bacterial infaction with homeopathic medicin or with the help of the
spirrit world, two of them told her that it could have been cancer but they
new the cure(injection and eating of high concentration of salt). Miss
millecam belived the alternetive methods worked and that normal medicin
would only make here more sick so she refused that supported by the
alternetive people. But ofcourse she died two years after she was diagnosed
with a little tumor which at that stage could be more easaly cured than a
common cold(withs is not curable ofcourse but you get my drift)
This all would not bring up as big a discusion weren't it for our national
health council. They written a big report about this case and now are trying
to get the alternetive "doctors" and Jomanda procecuted. This brought up a
big row in which even the minister of health had a part in rightfully saying
homeopathic medicin was as useful as plain water or maybe even les useful
becouse of the use of deminaralized water. Half the country whas angry at
him for saying this.
But the real discusion is ofcourse whose reponsible? The alternative doctors
saying she had nothing to worry about knowing that scientific methods proved
other and saying normal medicin would make her sick. Or miss millecam
herselves in trusting alternative medicin above scientific proven standart
method???
I, for my selve am not sure at all about the question if the alternative
healers are guilty to her death though I think the juge will sentence them
for jail or fine. What do you think about this?
This thing brought up some shocking other fact at my university a lot(20%)
of biology, pharmacology and medicin students admited using homeopatic
medicin themselves, knowing what they are and how living things and
chemestry works...
So even pretty inteligent and enlightend people can belive in rubbish. How
is this in other countries or in you're socialgroup?
