    The problem is NOT the customer's reaction. Freedom of speech protects the postman. However, freedom cuts both ways. How do we know that the postman was not coerced into promoting his literature? The problem is that when you mix religion with the workplace, you create intractable opportunities for religious nepotism and discrimination.

    This happened in the past and it was excessive. I think today's close-mouthed “only talk about the weather” society can be equally oppressive.

    So it' a preemptive strategy.
