About terraforming Mars:
It's a nice idea, but I don't think that's the best way to colonize space.
Whenever people think about colonizing space, they think about finding other planets where to live - because we'e used to living on a planet. but the way I see it, there's much more potential in huge space stations. Check http://members.aol.com/oscarcombs/settle.htm
