I think those numbers are highly America-centeric.

The average lifetime actually follows the same sine-wave
rhythm as population evolution. With the increase in numbers,
comes an increase in diseases, less resources per individual
and with that, the decrease of average lifespan.

This may not hold true for Americans, seeing that they now
consume 25% of world's fossile fuels, while being only 4%
of it's population, and now that they have managed to take
control over Iraq's Oil resources and are planning to take
over Saudi-Arabia's as well, they pretty much have their future
    cut out for them.

But as for the Africans, Arabs and Asians... I think AIDS will
radically do what it has already done in some places in Africa,
namely cut down the average lifespan to some 30 years, making
the general population largely ignorant and uneducated. - Unable
    to support a modern civilization.

So will it be Bush? Any bets on that?
