    The reporter who doubts the AIDS estimates seems to forget one all-important fact.

    Terryifying estimates of an AIDS epidemic have significantly altered sexual behavior.

    These alterations in behavior are not factored in to computer models.
    The estimates themselves are likely causing a vast reduction in the spread of AIDS and thus are likely to cause their own invalidation.

    Similarly, an announcement that AIDS is practically gone would produce an outbreak.
