Approval voting has been proven to be an excellent election system. It offers a heightened degree of consensus, it is nonmonotonic. It is simple and yet it frequently elects Condorcet and Pareto candidates.

My proposal is a tristate modified Approval Vote that is not merely a modified Borda count.

Given a group of choices you may select "approve/disapprove/i don't know" for each one. This is equivalent to having a tristate checkbox. On, off or grey. It is also equivalent to allowing abstention for each of an array of choices...

    Dimension A - Decision
    Yes is 1
    No is 0
    I don't know is 0

    Dimension B - Awareness
    Yes is 1
    No is 1
    I don't know is 0

The winner must satisfy conditions of victory in both dimensions.
