...ok, today when i plugged it in i heard for the first time some sounds...beeps actually. they were very low in volume...not the normal loud beeps heard when the machine is booting up as usual. they were 3 long beeps lasting about 1.5 seconds each with an interval of about 1/3 of a second. each three beep set was then followed by approx. 11 seconds of silence and then the beeps would repeat...this pattern continued until i shut it off(unplugged it). is this some sort of code for something?

It depends on who the manufacturer of your BIOS is. This informations used to be the first thing that appeared on your screen after starting the computer. Most BIOSes out there are made by Award these days.
Here is a couple of pages with BIOS beep codes. If you remember who made your BIOS, you can try to match it up.
