As a general question, on the transition from sanity to dementia, when does
the person die? When they stop being sane all the time, or when they are no
longer lucid at all? Or somewhere in between?
[Jake] I generally go with when they are no longer lucid at all as a good
default. But of course if you mean in a strictly biological sense, generally
if the heart hasn't been beating for any significant period of time, its
almost certainly goners from there. And of course if brain activity has been
zilch over a longer significant time, its probably goners as well. I of
course give wide respect to whatever the individual in a more lucid moment,
preferably in writing, would have considered "alive" as well.
Love,
-Jake
