Possibly because too much insult does hurt your credibility if you don't set
the records straight.

As for me, it behooves Hermit to show where the claims are as a FACT and not
as HIS OR THIRD PARTY INTERPRETATION or ASSUMPTION as regards to the
original material, since he scaffolds many objections upon this, not to
mention the name-calling.

Some have even thought that he 'dissected' my arguments. Or that I was
'beat'... Tsss...

And as it is, I also believe that if there is a claim as to the antiquity of
the Pi encoding (which I haven't seen anywhere except for Hermit's
assumption or interpretation unwarranted by the facts), then it would be
interesting to investigate the date of its creation if only to put the
record straight with societies misappropriating the information to further
their own unspeakable agendas if they do claim a date.

As it is, I have researched the subject more than Hermit does, and since
their is no claim, all you can do is put some range of values for the date
of the encoding itself.

As it is: it could not have been developed before the invention of the
katapayadi system by Haridatta according to Ifrah. There's your lower
threshold.

Upper threshold is the date the author writes the book. He doesn't claim to
be the author of the encoding although he could have been.

Conclusion: IF the alleged claim is before Van Ceulen's calculation of Pi to
35 d.p. and we find ample evidence that it is so, then we COULD need to
revise some of the current know historical facts. Otherwise, if we do not
find ample evidence, then we can dismiss the claims as not having enough
substantative evidence.

That's all there is to it, and that's what proper research results in. This
kind of thing is necessary if we want to clarify our world-view. We do this
often to refine our historical body of knowledge.

And as I said, this doesn't detract from building similar things into
english. This was avoiding the issue on the part of Hermit.

Yash.

No, Ape, this waas definitely near india (I remember now), 120ft down and
found by some technicians doing something else! It's VERY new news - perhaps
it will add more weight to my growing feeling that mankind was a lot more
advanced, a lot earlier than we think. Was the cuba/yucatan thing sunken
around the same time? - they say an area the size of the americas excluding
canada and alaska was submerged at the beginning of this inter-glacial. This
area was apparently the best land (as it was by the sea) so was probably
highly populated. Hmmmm.

Oh, and with the pi thing, what I donšt get is why, when herm and merm (not
to mention yash) keep saying that its pointless discussing it and how they
should each sht up/ go off the list, they donšt just STOP TALKING ABOUT
IT!!!!???
